Website redesign

In parallel with the renovation of the National Library building, both the RaRa brand and website were renewed.

“When designing the National Library’s new website, we had in mind a vision of an information portal where the content offered, such as access to our rich literary, archival and educational materials, as well as databases and events, would be presented in a logical and visually attractive way. We are grateful to ADM Interactive, with whom we have worked to create our new user-friendly web,” said Liis Raadla, Project Manager.

Analysis of the information architecture of the information system, user interface design and prototype, design system based on branding and user testing.

Content Model

For me, content modelling is an almost unavoidable part of the design process, especially if some of the content is coming from an existing web. It helps to think in advance and agree what content needs to be shown in the design brief in the first place, what part of it refers to other content (for example, here video is a standalone object but it can also be added to a news item or a content page).

As an added bonus, this will help to identify early on which elements or sections are more important and should be placed at the top of the mobile view.

Activity-oriented navigation design

We organised the main menu around words in action, as this fits better with the modern library approach where the focus is on what you can do as a visitor.

The ‘Browse’ views, for example, offer a cross-section of the National Library’s many collections. These have been curated by specialists, for example, into poster sets of scanned archive material held in DIGAR, or Digital Archive.
